Verity Companion How to survive jumpscares

Timer thresholds, companion pairings, and the safe dialogue order that keeps you alive in every room.

Why jumpscares matter

Jumpscares in Verity Companion are not random. Each room has a timer that ticks down while you interact with objects; if the timer reaches zero before you clear the room, a jumpscare fires and resets the room. The how to survive jumpscares guide documents the timer maths and the companion pairings that keep you alive.

The timer maths

Every room runs on a 90-second jumpscare timer. The timer pauses when you select a dialogue option, but it resumes as soon as you close the prompt. Hidden rooms add a 30-second tax. The bonus room in the Trickster route runs on a 60-second timer with no pause.

Pick the right companion

  • Empath (Seren) — lowers the timer threshold by 20 seconds.
  • Analyst (Tess) — pauses the timer while you solve the puzzle.
  • Skeptic (Vex) — adds a 10-second probe buffer on optional objects.
  • Guardian (Brick) — heals your save slot if a jumpscare lands, but locks two hidden rooms.
  • Trickster (Loki) — keeps the full 90-second timer but unlocks the bonus room.

The Tier List hub ranks every companion for the jumpscare track.

Room-by-room survival

Room 1

The orientation puzzle. Seren is the safest pick because the timer pauses for 30 seconds whenever the AI reads the desk note. Tess pauses the timer for 45 seconds during the puzzle hint.

Room 2

The first jumpscare room. The timer pauses while you choose a dialogue option, so use the prompt as a free 20-second buffer. Vex surfaces a probe option that pauses the timer for an extra 10 seconds.

Room 3

The lantern clue room. Tess pauses the timer during the puzzle hint. Seren does not pause but lowers the threshold by 20 seconds, which makes the room effectively 70 seconds long.

Room 4

The high-jumpscare room. The timer does not pause while you choose a dialogue option, so pick Seren to lower the threshold. The how to find secret rooms guide documents the alcove puzzle inside Room 4.

Room 5

The office chair room. The timer pauses for 15 seconds during the closing monologue. Tess extends the pause to 30 seconds during the puzzle. The how to unlock endings guide uses Room 5 to gate the Trickster ending.

The bonus room

The Trickster bonus room runs on a 60-second timer with no pause. The only way to clear it is to memorise the dialogue order. The Scripts hub dialogue map documents the order in detail.

Build around survival

If you struggle with jumpscares, start with Empath (Seren) for the first run. The getting started guide walks you through the run. Once you have cleared every room once, swap to Analyst (Tess) for the speed loops documented in the how to progress fast guide.

Pair with codes

The DARKROOM code on the Codes hub grants an extra save slot. Redeem it before a Trickster run so you can retry the bonus room without losing your main progress.

Cross-check with the AI map

The Scripts hub dialogue map explains why the timer pauses during certain dialogue options. Use it as a study aid to plan your routes.

After the bonus room

The Trickster ending is the hardest. If you survive the bonus room, you have cleared every track. The Updates hub logs every patch that changed the timer maths.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

How long is the jumpscare timer?

90 seconds per room by default. Seren lowers it by 20 seconds; hidden rooms add a 30-second tax. The Tier List hub explains the per-companion adjustments.

Can I pause the jumpscare timer?

Yes, while you select a dialogue option. Tess extends the pause to 45 seconds during puzzle hints.

What happens if a jumpscare hits me?

It resets the room and lowers your trust variable. Guardian (Brick) heals the trust loss but locks two hidden rooms. The how to find secret rooms guide explains the trade-off.

Is there a Roblox setting that helps?

Lower the in-game volume and turn off vibration. The timer maths is unchanged by client settings.
